Open House - Sean O'Casey Community Centre

SofA will be taking a trip to the Open House architecture festival in Dublin at the beginning of October and so, for the next few days, we'll be posting teaser shots of some of the many buildings that will be open to the public over that weekend.

This is the Sean O'Casey Community Centre in Dublin's East Wall by O'Donnell + Tuomey Architects.

If you're interested in joining us on this trip, please email societyofarchitecture[at]gmail[dot]com as soon as possible, and we will keep you updated. You can also contact any of the SofA committee in CG-042, the architecture studio, at UL.

Please also note that many of the buildings in the festival require pre-booking, so if there is something you would really like to see, be sure to book on http://www.architecturefoundation.ie/openhouse/2009

What is your kind of SofA?

SofA will be holding our AGM next Wednesday the 23rd of September. It is vital that as many members as possible attend and get involved in SofA. All of the SofA committee positions will be up for grabs. To help you decide which you would be best suited to we have described all vacant positions below:

President: The president is the public face of SofA, it is the president’s job to engage speakers and to plan events for the SofA calendar. It is also the president’s job to greet and ensure SofA’s guests are happy. A strong president is vital to drive a strong committee.

Vice President/ Sectary: The main role of the VP is to support the President, however the VP must also act as Sectary to SofA, taking minutes at meetings and recording them for the budget.

Treasurer: The treasurer as you might expect must take care of SofA’s financial affairs and is in the main responsible for submitting the budget to clubs and socs at the end of the year.

Events Officer: The events officer must take care of everything surrounding an event, such as setting up the venue, booking hotels for guests and providing refreshments at the events.

PRO: The pro is responsible for letting all the SofA members know about what is going on in the world of SofA, this includes our blog, posters and emails.

Membership Office: The membership office must regularly update the Gmail contacts and also keep a record of all members in the membership excel.

Trips Officer: The trips officer is a new position this year, the trips officer will be in charge of organising our trip abroad and also assisting the events officer with trips within the country.

There are also a number of places for general committee members who help with postering, events, trips and big ideas!
At the meeting all nominations must be seconded and anyone who runs uncontested shall be deemed elected, in the case of more than one person running for a position a ballot of those present will decide.

So please come along and let us know what is your kind of SofA!

Your SofA needs you!

Hi everyone, and welcome back to another year here at SAUL. A very special welcome to all of you who are joining us here for the first time, it's great to have you on board to share the experience with us.

SofA will have a stand at the UL Clubs and Socs recruitment drive, which takes place tomorrow (Wednesday 9th September from 6pm until 9pm) in the Arena, and we'd love to see you there for a catch up, and so we can let you know all about the talks, workshops and trips we have lined up for the coming semester. Our annual student membership rate is just E3, so it shouldn't break the bank, at least not in week 1! We'll also be having our AGM shortly to elect a new committee, so if you're interested in becoming more involved in SofA be sure to find us at the Arena or in the studio for more info.
